NFL Lockout's Impact On The Jacksonville Jaguars

This may have been the season Jacksonville began looking for David Garrard's replacement, but a lockout likely changed those plans. Without off season practices, The Jaguars will be forced to stay with Garrard another season. The Jags do have a solid running game, which could lead to early season success, but their defense needs a lot of improvements. Jacksonville should focus on adding defensive players (who can play right away) in the draft. One solid draft pick and a couple other rookie contributors could give Jacksonville fans some hope.

Jacksonville Jaguars place franchise tag on Marcedes Lewis

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed the franchise tag on Pro Bowl tight end Marcedes Lewis today, that's according to News 4 in Jacksonville, FL.

Lewis, a first round pick in 2006, had has best season as a pro in 2010, leading the team with 10 touchdowns. He also caught 58 balls for 700 yards.

Lewis' franchise tag salary is expected to be around $8 million in 2011. The Jaguars are reportedly interested in signing Lewis to a long term deal.

Lewis will turn 27 in May of 2011.

2011 Fantasy Football Scouting Report: David Garrard, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

2010 Stats
  2734 yds.
  23 TDs
     15 INTs
2011 Projected
  2625 yds.
  19 TDs
     16 INTs

Garrard has failed to emerge as a reliable fantasy football quarterback, and that trend will likely continue this season. The Jags are an offense built to run and they lack consistent playmakers at wide receiver. Garrard's most reliable target is tight end Mercedes Lewis, who the Jags made their franchise player. Garrard is back-up option at best and he may be guy best left undrafted. Also, The Jags drafted Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert with the tenth pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, which could signal the end of Garrard's tenure in Jacksonville (I predict it will be midseason 2011).
