Nnamdi Asomugha to the Green Bay Packers? Charles Woodson likes the idea

(Updated: I am hearing rumors that the Packers are doing everything they can to clear enough cap space to make a run at Asomugha when the new CBA is reached -- March 7, 2011)

When the 2011 NFL free agency period begins (whenever that may be), one of the most coveted free agents will be Oakland Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha. Nearly every team in the league could use a player like Asomugha, with maybe the exception of Green Bay. However, the idea of Asomugha to Green Bay recently got floated by Asomugha's former Raider teammate and close friend Charles Woodson.

In an interview with ESPNMilwaukee.com, Woodson said he would be open to switching to saftey to make room for Asomugha.

In the interview Woodson said, “If I talked to Dom (Capers) and he thought that was the best thing for us to win another championship I would do it,” Woodson said. “This thing is about winning. If this would have been my fifth year in the league I probably would have told you hell no but at this point if that was going to get me another championship why wouldn’t I?”

Woodson went on to say he has texted Asomugha recently, but said he will not recruit Asomugha to come to Green Bay.

Aside from Woodson, the Packers already have two solid cornerbacks in Tramon Williams and Sam Shields. Plus, the Packers are not known for throwing money at free agents. It would seem like a longshot for Asomugha to land in Green Bay, but an intriguing thought nonetheless.
