NFL Lockout's Impact On The Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are slowing slipping out of the "best NFL team" conversation. Indy struggled often last year and did a poor job of protecting Peyton Manning. They also had a hard time running the ball and keeping their running backs healthy. I do expect the Colts to make improvements on their offensive line, but learning that complex offense doesn't happen overnight. The Colts will go through some growing pains early in the season as their new faces learn the system (without the benefit of off season workouts). As for the Colts defense, they are a mess and need a lot of new and younger blood. The Colts should have two targets in the upcoming draft, offensive linemen and defenders who can contribute right away. The Colts may struggle next season and if it weren't for Manning, they might be contenders in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

  1. relax!!! people around here are so quick to scream that the sky is falling when it coomes to the colts....and i'm so tired of it. INJURIES....that's the key word for this past season. the offense is as deep and taleneted as any that the colts have had. the defense is solid, and is not old. we have a very young secondary, the linebackers are young...with the exception of brackett, who is still the heart and soul of that defense, and we are continuously bringing in new D-linemen. what the colts went through last year is normal.....what they have been doing for the last 7 or 8 years is not.

  2. Thanks for the comment Josh. I think the Colts need a defensive playmaker (ala Bob Sanders (when health) and o-line help. I didn't say the sky is falling, I said they are slowly slipping out of the elite teams category. They will be competitive, but the window is closing.
