Expectations were high for Mathews last season as a rookie with the Chargers. Mathews was slow to get started and battled various injuries throughout the season, but his finish showed his promise. In 12 games, Mathews tallied over 800 total yards and seven touchdowns - including a week 17 performance against Denver where he rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns. When healthy, Mathews has the ability to be a top fantasy football running back, especially since he's the top running back on the prolific Chargers offense. One concern that hurts Mathews' value, other than his durability, is the emergence of Mike Tolbert. Tolbert filled in exceptionally well when Mathews was injured and scored 11 touchdowns in 2010. Expect Tolbert to be a factor again this season, especially around the goalline.
